INAUGURATION OF A NEW BOOK ON JINNAH

SKN Publications and book designer, printer and distributor NWA Digital Marketing, Inc. are pleased to announce the publication of Shafi J. Ahmed’s debut book The Legacy of Jinnah: A Bangladeshi Perspective. This publication has received endorsement through the International Studies Department at University of Michigan-Flint. An inauguration ceremony is planned on May 22nd, 2022.

Jinnah – who started his political career as the ‘Ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity’ – went on to become the father of the nation of Pakistan and to create a country for the Muslims of South Asia.

Almost seventy-five years have passed and yet his legacy today still remains the most emotionally charged subject in South Asia. India and Pakistan, two nuclear powered nations, have already fought five wars. Their mutual animosity makes it the most vulnerable flash point for a nuclear disaster. Today’s Bangladesh is not immune to this controversy. There some people view Jinnah as adversarial toward Bengalis and blame him for implanting the seed of separation among the two wings of Pakistan. Any making of amends between these countries must be started with a proper understanding of Jinnah, who remains at the core of these issues.

Before WW II most countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America were colonized by European powers. The role that the U.S. played in decolonizing most of these countries is almost forgotten today. When France and most of mainland Europe was occupied by Nazi Germany and Britain was devastated by Nazi bombing, the only hope British Prime Minister Churchill had was to enlist U.S. support for the war. President Roosevelt was ready to defend England but not its empire. Despite repeated pleas, Roosevelt was adamant on his anti-colonial stance which, at one point, almost brought about the collapse of the Allied unified forces.

Jinnah, who was more of an elite socialite than a grass roots politician – and perhaps the most successful attorney British India ever produced – had a very clear vision of world politics. His relationship with the British conservative Tory party, especially with Churchill, is well known. To what degree it influenced the division of India is the subject of several books.

The author’s intention with this book is to elevate some level of interest and enthusiasm in this charismatic historical figure among young people of all three countries. In order to retain their undivided attention and focus, and to mitigate any sense of intimidation, he tried to keep this book under 120 pages.

In our current Internet age, vast amounts of information on the history of the life and political career of Jinnah is easily available. Yet, only through discussion and mutual understanding can we resolve the many conflicts and issues that exist, and thus hope to achieve greater stability and unified peace in the region.

I was a foreign medical student studying in the prestigious Dacca Medical College in the
1960s and saw firsthand the second class treatment of Bengali’s by the political and military establishments from West Pakistan.

Jinnah can be seen from the younger generation of Bengalis as having let them down. Was he a hero or villian?
If there was NO Jinnah there would have been NO Pakistan and NO Bangladesh.

Young readers of both sides must read this book to see for themselves the realities of recent history
